Adventure awaits at Flathead Lake Lodge, located in northwest Montana, just a short drive from Glacier National Park. Flathead Lake Lodge is a third-generation family business started in 1945 by Les Averill. What was once an untamed section of wilderness dotted with rugged cabins has been transformed into a modern getaway to a simpler time and place.
Over 2,000 private acres of Flathead Lake Lodge span from the shores of the lake to the peak of the adjacent Swan Mountains to the east. Sitting just north of the lodge is Wayfarers State Park, an untouched woodland reminder of what this whole area used to look like.
Whether you choose to stay on the property at the lodge or take a day-trip excursion, the ranch features no shortage of adventures. There’s fun for the whole family in the form of trail rides and endless hikes. If you go during the warm season, you can have fun in the sun and the refreshing waters of Flathead Lake. Their horseback riding activity is a big part of the program.
If you venture out to the untouched wilderness, you will see Glacier National Park, a nearby Bison Range, and find out how the locals live in Bigfork, a quaint little mountain village with loads of personality.
All accommodations at this family-owned Montana dude ranch reflect the back-to-basics sensibilities of the locals, with log-cabin-style housing. This doesn’t come at the expense of comfort, though, as you’ll feel right at home and well taken care of at this all-inclusive dude ranch.
